Day Trips

Within easy reach for a day trip are some well known places plus a few hidden gems.

York – This vibrant university city boasts a historic Minster, there’s so much do in York with its independent shops and cafes, city walls with its Roman roots and Viking connections. There are several great park-and-ride’s located around the outskirts of the city.

Castle Howard – This magnificent estate featured in Brideshead Revisited and Bridgerton. The house, gardens and extensive grounds are a must, and the treetop adventure playground will intrigue younger visitors. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

Whitby – The harbour town has a completely unique appeal with its ruined abbey above the busy harbour, and bustling narrow streets. The town has a rich seafaring history where the young Captain James Cook learned his trade.

Malton is the food capital of Yorkshire. A vibrant Georgian market town with a thriving array of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Malton Food Market is held on the second Saturday each month.

Dalby Forest – Perfect for an active day out with miles of walking, running and cycling trails through woodland to the south of the North Yorks Moors. The facilities are second-to-none with bike hire, an activity centre and a Go Ape site offering Segway trails and a 35-metre treetop challenge.

Hull – The historic city of Hull was the City of Culture in 2017 and is a great day out. The Deep is one of the UK’s largest aquariums winning numerous tourism awards. The city’s old town with its Georgian buildings are home to many small shops, cafes and restaurants.

For nature lovers RSPB Bempton is only a short drive away, with the only mainland nesting spot in the UK for gannets. Between April and September you are likely to see Puffins at Bempton.

Flamborough is situated just north of Bridlington and has a working lighthouse to protect the coastline. Tours of the lighthouse can be booked. Keep an eye out for the pods of dolphins and porpoises in the bay, and seals on the beaches.
